Oracle E-Business Suite Development: New Technologies

Posted in Software Tips + More on August 30th, 2008

We have already talked about the importance of Java Technologies at “Oracle E-Business Suite Customization: New Directions”. Not only for Oracle Company itself, but also for the Oracle E-Business customers, whose investments must be preserved. Now we present tools and frameworks, you will use if you intend to develop in Java:

• Java Language Itself: is an object oriented language, so if you are not used with this paradigm, we strongly advice you to study this already established paradigm. To develop in Java you will use a lot of standards and libraries, they are known by its name, J2ME, J2SE and J2EE, to portable, standard and enterprise applications respectively;

• JDeveloper: is an integrated development environment (IDE) built in Java for Java development. It is complete considering the development life cycle, so you can model, code, debug, test and deploy. It is prepared for Web, XML, Web Services, SQL, J2EE and Oracle ADF development. Provide built-in features for open sources tools and frameworks, such as Struts, Ant, JUnit and CVS. According to Oracle, JDeveloper is the tool of choice for Forms, Reports and Designer customers because it carries a similar development model.

• Struts: is a java framework considered a de facto standard to build web applications. Struts is a solution to organize what was happing when people used Java Servlets and JSP freely. Struts implements the MVC (Model / View / Controller) pattern, so you might separate business logic (Model) from web application flow of control (Controller) and JSP/html code (View).

• J2EE: is an architecture to define standards to solve enterprise level problems, like persistence, scalability, availability, security, distributed computing, etc. This standard should be followed by application server vendors, so a J2EE application would run on any J2EE application server complaint, like Oracle OC4J (OAS), IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, JBoss, etc. It is not a simple architecture to solve a simple problem. Get ready to study and understand the complexity of enterprise programming (we will deal with this matter on others papers to help you).

• EJB: is a J2EE standard to define components to write business logic at the server side (Session Beans), to define a domain layer to access data (Entity Beans) and to deal with asynchronous and queuing messages (Message Driven Beans). The last EJB standard release (the 3.0), not commonly used yet, became much easier to develop with. The previous one (the 2.0 and 2.1) should be used with a series of design patterns to solve common problems, what make the code not so easy to program and understand. The first one (the 1.0 and 1.1) was useless to enterprise level development; it did not implement even a one to many relationship.

• Oracle ADF: according to Oracle, ADF is an application development framework design to simplify J2EE development and bring productivity and ease of use of Oracle forms to the J2EE platform. ADF with JDeveloper is the best choice for Oracle E-Business Suite, because Oracle made this environment familiar to Oracle Forms, Reports and Designer developers.

Next papers we go deeper about J2EE and Oracle E-Business Suite Development.

Lotus Domino: Reports and Connectors - Crystal Reports, XML, ODBC/JDBC, OLE

Posted in Software Tips + More on August 30th, 2008

Lotus Notes Domino is very efficient in electronic document workflow automation. Unfortunately the electronic document workflow can not replace paper documents completely. For example some documents should be sent to your suppliers or customer in paper form. Lotus Notes (as a client) has built-in tools for printing documents, views and folders. But inbuilt Lotus Notes mechanisms providing such services as printing on the paper Domino database contents can not solve all reports generation objectives.

Regular printing mechanisms of Lotus Notes client allow the following:

• Print one or several documents from Domino database vis Lotus form. A developer can create the form in Domino, which will be used for the printing. In simple cases the printing will be correct. If the form is complex (for ex. It has many design elements, such as inbuilt views, sections, etc.), then the problems may begin to show up (wrong indents, fonts, text imposition, etc.);

• Print data from view, folder in table format. So in this case developer is very limited in report’ s design;

• In Domino R6 two more mechanisms were added some-how connected with printing:

• automatic preparation for contact information from a document printing (function Contact print). In other words -information printing from document in envelope label form;

• copying of selected in view/folder documents into clipboard (menu Edit -> Cope Selected as Table). Later the information may be pasted in another application (for ex., MS Excel), and create needed report on this data.

Thus, as we can see, regular Lotus Notes mechanists cannot solve all tasks in reports creation. For instance, using such the mechanisms it is not possible to create histograms, based on Domino data.

In order to create full-featured reports in Notes/Domino it is necessary to deploy integration technologies. Following technologies could be used:

• Creation in Notes/Domino functionality which loads data into external applications in the required formats. In this case developer is limited only by integration mechanisms which are supported by Notes/Domino (for ex. XML, ODBC/JDBC, OLE, etc);

• External application way, pulling data from Notes/Domino. For example, it may be Crystal Reports;

• OLE. OLE allows reliable connection to Lotus client and data extraction and even processing. Author is familiar with two successful projects in this field, realized by IBM business partners. Both use OLE technology, which works seamlessly at the Notes client side (not on Domino server).

The summary of this article is - Complex reporting of the Notes/Domino databases is possible, but usually we see the common needs to go beyond standard built-in printing mechanism, inbuilt in Lotus Notes client.

Flipping or Fixing Houses for Profit

Posted in Universe Of Sports on August 27th, 2008

What’s the difference between a fixer and a flip?

Many real estate investors make $5,000 to $10,000 or more by flipping houses. These investors buy a home from a distressed seller and resell it quickly for a profit. Just because a seller has serious problems like a pending foreclosure or divorce doesn’t mean the house is a fixer. Many distressed sellers offer prime houses in perfect condition discounted for a quick sale.

Distressed sellers jump at the chance to get out from under their overwhelming problems with an offer to close in ten days. To purchase a home quickly, you need to be prepared to offer cash or a have secure loan in place with a reliable mortgage lender.

Other real estate investors prefer to buy fixers from distressed sellers. Distressed fixers tender the best bargains to make the highest return on your money. For instance, if you put 5% down on a $200,000 home, spend $5,000 fixing the house up, and another $3,000 in payments, your cash investment totals $18,000. If you sell the home for a $70,000 profit like many rehabbers, you can see that your return on your investment of $18,000 for two months exceeds most other types of investments.

This investment plan assumes that you have the knowledge and skills, time to work on your fixer, and that you sell the house as soon as it’s finished to a qualified buyer. Home improvement centers help you with how-to classes, brochures, and advice. You need to give up your free time–TV, parties, leisure activities and work on your fixer. You could hire workers, but contractors and laborers work slowly and eat up your profits.

The last part of the equation, selling your house quickly to a qualified buyer means you need to do your homework. Many investors seek free help from a loan officer to price the house right and to qualify their buyers. These investors earn the sales commission by selling their houses by owner.

The most important issue, how you fix up your house, ensures that you quickly attract a buyer willing to pay top dollar for your transformed property. Investors using Design Psychology strategies for fixing houses sell their homes, for more than the asking price, three hours after putting the yard sign out.

Whether you want to make money investing in real estate by flipping or fixing houses, you need to understand your market. To get started in your real estate business, go house shopping. You’ll soon learn how to pick up a flip or a fixer and be on your way to making a high return on your money.

Do hookah pipes reduce the harmful effects of smoking?

Posted in Lifestyle Center, School of Health on August 27th, 2008

Whether smoking hookah pipes is healthier than smoking a cigar, cigarettes or even a pipe is something that is still in debate amongst the smokers of hookah pipes and those who are strongly opposed.

There are those who believe that smoking a hookah pipe is safer since there is no nicotine and no tar to be consumed as it happens with filtered cigarettes, nor is there any consumption of direct hot smoke, thus protecting the lungs as well as the pharynx. For these supporters of the hookah pipe, there is no safer product, just as long as you avoid or reduce significantly the consumption of tobacco-seasoned molasses.

Those who oppose to the use of the hookah pipe state that its use will not only damage the lungs and can indeed be an additional element to consider in terms of lung and pharynx cancer, but can also provokes other health problems such as tooth related diseases due to the use of mouthpieces.

Regardless, there is a serious problem with hookah pipes but this depend solely on the hookah owner and this is the health problem that is derived from the proper maintenance that the hookah pipe sustains after each use. Hookah users who do not clean their hookah pipes after each use risk sharing diseases with their friends so do those who venture into hookah bars and nightclubs and share mouthpieces.

Amongst the possible contagious diseases are herpes, gastric diseases and even the flu.

A Key to Weight Loss

Posted in Universe Of Sports on August 25th, 2008

It’s out with the old, and in with the new you!

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Two thirds of Americans are overweight in the USA, and obesity has become an epidemic with serious health risk factors. Losing weight without a plan is like traveling without a mapyou may get to your destination, but how long it will take, and what condition you will be in when you get there become unclear. Many of the approaches that are advertised for weight loss fail to give you the proper road map.

Most weight loss experts agree that the key to long-term weight management evolves from permanent lifestyle changes; nevertheless, hundreds of misleading services, and weight loss products are advertised in today’s marketplaces–many of which are potentially dangerous, and put the user at a higher health risk from their side effects. Studies reveal that permanent health damage, and even death can result from some of the unsafe approaches to dieting that are advertised to consumers.

The Federal Trade Commission, with the assistance of Partnership for Healthy Weight Management, researched advertising for weight loss. In a report issued in September 2002, revealing strategies for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, the results indicated that the average consumer has yet to become educated to the dangerous risk factors associated with many advertised weight loss methods.

There is a safe approach to weight loss that most people never consider…hypnotherapy; in fact, many experts say that hypnotherapy has the highest success for permanent weight loss–higher than the Atkins diet, Weight Watchers, any others. Hypnosis has been officially recognized by the American Medical Association since 1958. Hypnotherapists are often trained in holistic/naturopathic protocols. By using non-invasive, non-chemical modalities of intervention, the hypnotherapist looks at weight loss from a perspective that life changes must be made, but to change them, you must to first find what underlying causes have led to the weight gain in the first place. Once you find the causes, a map can be drawn out, and goals can be reached with lasting effects.

How you eat, and how it affects your body weight depends on many factors. Examples include learned behavior; family relationships, societal influences, food sensitivity, emotional trauma, knowledge of food & nutrition, habit/routine, exercise, quality of food, and genetic patterns/hormone structure. Other weight loss techniques tend to fail because they are too simplistic–overlooking the many factors that caused the weight gain, and how they can sabotage permanent weight loss.

Dieting and exercise alone often result in temporary success for most people; however, behavioral changes, nutrition, and naturopathic techniques need to be addressed and introduced into weight loss programs to increase their effectiveness. A fundamental reason that hypnotherapy is so successful at permanent weight loss, is because it allows you to find the root causes of the weight gain, and works on overcoming those causes. When the root causes are eliminated, in conjunction with proper nutrition, and a plan with solid goals, permanent weight loss is the end result.

If you have any existing health problems–diabetes, high blood pressure, and depression, or if you’re taking prescription medications, it’s very important to check with your doctor before starting any new diet.

Love Could Be An Errand Away

Posted in Universe Of Sports on August 18th, 2008

You have signed up on several large dating sites and posted a great profile. So far, you’ve had some nice responses, but these haven’t led to a meeting yet. Someone told you about a singles group at your church and there is an organization in your city for singles who want to volunteer, and hopefully meet other like-minded people. You’ve lost count of all the parties, happy hours and clubs you’ve been to, hoping to meet compatible singles. Whew! It’s a lot of effort just to be in the right place at the right time with the right people.

Or is it?

In towns and cities everywhere there are single people (like yourself) going about their daily lives. Schedules consist of long hours at work and/ or school, commuting, appointments, errands, leisure time pursuits/activities and everything else that is part of the fabric of one’s existence. In the course of a day, the average person encounters many strangers on the street, elevator, store, metro, etc. Have you ever really thought about the possibility that Mr/Ms Right could be the person behind you in line or across the aisle on the metro? If not, now is a good time to raise your awareness and broaden your thinking on the subject of how and where you can meet compatible singles. Armed with some newly acquired skills, your next chance encounter could lead to a first date and more. The following are areas to start building the expertise that will help you to stand out and get the right kind of attention when an attractive stranger comes into your sights.

* Always be prepared. You just never know, so you need to make that extra effort before you rush out of the house. Take a quick look in the mirror, comb your hair and change those (horrid) old sweats into a nice pair of jeans. How you feel about yourself will be projected onto those around you, and really - you do look like your mother in THOSE pants.

* Raise your general awareness of what and who is around you. Don’t walk with you head down, avoiding any eye contact. Try smiling at people you pass on the street and offer a nice greeting or remark to the folks who wait on you when you shop, do your banking, pick up your clothes at the cleaners, etc. Take special note of strangers who appear to be single and to have characteristics you seek and surreptitiously check to see if that cute guy/girl is looking your way. If so, smile and say hello if it feels appropriate to do so.

* Watch your body language. Along with holding your head up, remember to keep those shoulders back and walk with a comfortable erectness. Have an “open” posture. Don’t wrap your arms around yourself as you stand or huddle in a corner when waiting/standing in a line. The eyes say it all; so let yours say “friendly.” Communicate to others that you are approachable and let them see that you are interested- if you are. What you don’t say speaks volumes.

* Learn to be a good flirt. Along with body language and communicating interest with your eyes, you will probably need to smile and have a few good lines available. Rule of thumb- only approach someone who is reciprocating your interest through his or her non-verbal language. Starting with a question is always a good move. Make it real, non-threatening and impersonal. For instance, you are in a sandwich shop grabbing lunch and you are standing in back of a very cute guy. “Excuse me, have you ever tried the Italian sub here?” “It looks really good, but I hate it when they add too much oil.” Safe, easy to answer and very open-ended. This allows the other person to share their experience with the shop (or lack of) and to add any comments or ask a question of their own. If they do, respond back with something that offers them the chance to keep talking.

* Become a great conversationalist. Yes, anyone can master this. It’s about focusing on the other person, deeply listening and offering interesting, upbeat thoughts and topics. With a stranger, keep it simple. After the first exchange, ask them easy questions about themselves. Not too personal or probing. “So, if you come here a lot to eat, you must live/work nearby.” “I’ve been here a few times, but don’t think I’ve seen you before.” Or offer something about yourself. “I’m a vegetarian and this is the best shop for meatless sandwiches that I have found.” You get it - safe, pleasant ways to ask about them, share about you and keep the conversation going. “On nice days like this I often eat in the park down the street- want to join me?”

* Use common sense and take precautions with any strangers. He’s very cute, but so was Ted Bundy. Never give out your home number, address or any personal information to someone you have just met “on the street.” Most people completely understand and agree with this kind of caution and would not be offended if you explained your need to only give a first name, work phone number or an email address. If this first meeting leads to an offer to get together again, accept by all means if it feels right. But plan to meet in a public place until you have more information about them. Once you have had a few meetings/dates, you can exchange home phone numbers and more personal information.

* Close the deal. So, you two have been standing in line and talking while your sandwiches were being made. You are very interested and don’t want to just say good-bye. What can you do? You can reiterate that you eat here a few times a week and tell them that you hope to see them on Wednesday at around noon. You can pick up on something they might have shared such as their participation on their workplace sponsored softball team. ” My team will be playing on the mall on Sunday at 4, when do you guys play?” Perhaps we will play opposite each other and can talk after the game.” Of course, there’s always the suggestion of eating your sandwiches together at that park down the street…

Joining singles clubs and groups, posting personal ads and/or doing volunteer work are all great ways to try to connect with compatible, available singles. However, they are not the only way. Many great loves started from chance meetings in the couple’s everyday world. So, get out there, really mingle and open your mind to the possibility that when you go around the next corner you will come fact to face with Mr/Ms Right.

Home Loan Mortgage Loan Refinance - Refinancing For A Shorter Term To Save Money

Posted in Universe Of Sports on August 16th, 2008

Saving money with lower rates isn’t the only reason to refinance. Opting for a shorter loan can also save thousands in interest and free up income in the future. A short term loan can also help you pay down your principal quicker.

Better Rates

A 15 year mortgage has a better rate than a 30 year mortgage offered the same day - usually by a quarter of a percent. However, even if rates are the same as your current mortgage, refinancing to a shorter mortgage can save you thousands in interest by paying off the principal sooner. Your monthly payments will be slightly larger, but that is because a larger portion of the balance is being paid.

Offers Self-Discipline

Short term loans make your decision to pay off your mortgage official. For those that have a hard time making extra payments on their mortgage, a short term mortgage may be the answer.

It is helpful to first look at your long term financial goals. Perhaps you are planning to pay for kids’ college tuition, to retire, or to reduce your debt load in the future. Decide when you want your mortgage paid off and look at the monthly payments. You can choose a number of periods - 15, 20 or 25 year home loans.

Factors To Consider

Low rates aren’t the only factor to consider when deciding to refinance, the payment period is also important. By simply making larger principal payments, you get rid of your loan sooner and save money on interest payments. Additionally, reducing your debt level by paying off your mortgage also improves your credit and financial situation.

However, you should also remember the immediate impact of a short term mortgage. A larger monthly payment can put a strain on your monthly budget. You may also find that if you plan to sell your home within a couple of years, you will not recoup the cost of refinancing fees.

You are also limiting your financial flexibility. You are committing yourself to a larger principal payment. You could choose to simply pay down the principal when you have the available cash.

In the end, short term mortgages do have their benefits and should be considered when you plan to refinance.

Aromatherapy at Home: Beating the Cold Bug

Posted in Universe Of Sports on August 13th, 2008

It seems that nearly everyone I know has been either fighting or recovering from a cold or flu these last few weeks. And many of my clients have been asking how essential oils can help them prevent or heal their illnesses. There are a few things you can do to prevent yourself from catching a bad cold:

  • Diffuse eucalyptus essential oil at home to clean and purify the air.

  • Take a “winter bath” once or twice a week with the following aromatherapy blend to boost your immune system and keep you healthy during the chilly winter!

In a 10-ml bottle, pour the essential oils first and then add an organic vegetable oil to fill:

  • 15 drops of Ravensara

  • 8 drops of Rosemary

  • 6 drops of Thyme officinalis

Click here to purchase your organic essential oils:

===> http://www.myzticisle.com/essentialoils.htm

Pour a big package of Epsom Salts into the bathtub and add your aromatic blend. Make sure you allow at least 20 minutes to breathe in the vapors, adding more hot water as needed to keep steaminess at a maximum. Wrap yourself warmly when you get out, and enjoy a hot herbal tea prepared with Echinacea and Ginseng.

Do you already feel a cold coming on? Have you been experiencing chills, mild fever, headache, stuffy nose, dry sore throat, and fatigue? To help you battle your cold or flu, take a hot bath with the following aromatic recipe once or twice a day if necessary.

In a 10-ml bottle, pour the essential oils first and then add an organic vegetable oil to fill:

  • 15 drops of Ravensara

  • 10 drops of Rosemary

  • 8 drops of Thyme officinalis

  • 8 drops of Eucalyptus

Click here to purchase your organic essential oils: http://www.myzticisle.com/essentialoils.htm

Pour a big package of Epsom Salts into the bathtub and add your aromatic blend. Make sure you allow at least 20 minutes to breathe in the vapors, adding more hot water as needed to keep steaminess at a maximum. Wrap yourself warmly when you get out, then treat yourself to a good hot soup such as Miso Green Onion, Hot and Sour (Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai), or good ol’ Chicken Soup.

Don’t underestimate the power of soup! In one study, participants who consumed chicken soup experienced an increase in the flow of nasal secretions (when compared to just plain hot and cold water). The taste and aroma is believed to be part of the therapy, as well as the inhalation of the vapors. In another study, researchers found that chicken soup had anti-inflammatory properties, even when extremely diluted.

Also, drink plenty of orange juice (rich in Vitamin C) and purchase echinacea-goldenseal tincture that you will take according to the directions on the bottle.

But foremost…rest, rest, rest!
